The Scottish Schoolboys Fencing Championships
Well, a better start to Advent one could not have hoped for.
Off I took our fencing teams to new, bright and breezy St Thomas of Aquin's High School yesterday morning without much sense of hope of winning anything, apart from perhaps a bronze medal.
When I returned there after morning lessons, lo and behold, they had just reached the semi-finals.
A victorious semi-final and then just an hour and a half later, after defeating the mighty Queen Anne HIgh School of Dunfermline, the lads brought home the bacon.
Yes indeed, for the first time in our history, we are the Scottish Schools Champions in the Epée.
Today it's a different sword game altogether as we compete in the foil competition.

David,
I was pleased to see that Queen Anne returned the complement to Fettes in the Foil final with young Andrew Harding in the winning team.
Anonymous Jack of Dunfermline
Yes, Anonymous Jack - the Queen Anne guys were very strong indeed - not to mention a couple of years younger than our lads. No doubt they will be the reigning champions for many years to come.
